The Library will provide a welcoming and supportive environment to use information technology properly ;  to develop research skills and to develop the habit of reading.

 

Aim :

 

 To support teaching and learning with the school.

 

 To provide, maintain and advise on appropriate resources to support the curricular, recreational and cultural needs of students and staff

 

 To organise these resources to allow easy retrieval

 

 To assist in helping pupils to become independent users of information

 

 To provide a welcoming, supportive and attractive environment that encourages use of the library facilities in all members of the school community

 

 All members of the school community are welcome in the Library and should have equal access, irrespective of gender, ethnicity or special needs.

 

 The Library can seat 70 students, plus 30 for computer use, equating to about 9% of the school population.

 

 Effective signs, shelf labels and guiding will be provided to aid the location and retrieval of resources and information.

 

 Attractive displays will be maintained in order to promote resources.

 

 The Library has been recently refurbished to make better use of the space, but consideration should be given to updating the shelving in the future.

The timings for the library will 7.30 To 3.00 Pm. (Monday To Friday) or on days when school is working.

Circulation

 

For Students

 

 Students are allowed to borrow one book at a time.

 

 This needs to be returned during the next library class i.e. after one week. After this, students need to either return the book or re-issue the same for another one week. To reissue the book, please contact the librarian.

 

 No new library book will be issued if the earlier book has not been returned.

 

 In case the book is not returned beyond the due date, a fine will be charged

 

a. For the first week after the due date: Rs. 5/- per day

 

b. For the second week after the due date: Rs. 10/- per day

 

c. If the period exceeds15 days, the borrower will have to pay the cost of the book, along with the fine.

 

 Reference material should not be taken outside the Library.

 

 On returning the books, if pages are found missing, then the last borrower of the book shall be held accountable for the missing pages and shall accordingly be fined.

 

 Students are required to handle books and reading material very carefully. Marking library books with pencil or ink, tearing the pages or spoiling the same in any other way will be viewed very seriously. In such case, the last reader will be held responsible, unless he shows the Librarian at the time of issue that the book had been previously marked or damaged. In the event of damage of any kind, the last reader will be liable to compensate for damage. The book will have to be replaced.

 

 In case a reader loses a book he/ she should replace the book. In case the book cannot be replaced, the current price of the book will be paid for by the borrower.

 

 The School Leaving Certificate will be issued to student only after he/ she has returned all the Library books and cleared all library dues.

 

 Strict discipline must be maintained in the Library. Indiscipline may lead to disciplinary action and library privileges may be withdrawn.

 

For Teachers

 

 Teachers are allowed to borrow 10 books at a time

 

 This needs to be returned after 1 month. After this, teacher need to either return the book or re-issue the same for another 1 month. To reissue the book, please contact the librarian or write to librarian.worli@podar.org

 

 In case a reader loses a book he/ she should replace the book. In case the book cannot be replaced, the current price of the book will be paid for by the borrower.

 

 Clearance will be provided only after he./she has retuned all the Library Documents and cleared all Library dues.

 

Library Budget

 

The Head Of the School will be responsible for the expenditure and monitoring of the Library budget.

 

Library Resources and Recommendations

 

The Library comprises a wide range of literary and factual texts reflecting different cultures and perspectives, as well as making these available in the languages most relevant to its users.

 

 The Library has developed a balanced collection of texts to support the whole school curriculum, as well as catering to teachers’ and students’ interests in current events, scientific innovation and recreational pursuits.

 

 The Library assists teachers and students in meeting educational and personal achievement objectives.

 

 The Library should provide timely and accurate information that is sufficient, relevant and appropriate to the user.

 

 The Library should assists users to conduct in-depth studies with appropriate and honest research methodologies, investigate specific areas of knowledge and engender new interests and passions in students and teachers.

 

 The Library collection allows and encourages users to become effective users of a wide variety of media from which they can seek information.

Selection And Acquisition

 

Resources are selected to implement, enrich and support the breadth of educational programmes for students and teachers as well as their individual interests. It is the obligation of library to provide a wide range of resources and to respect the diversity of many differing points of view

 

Collection Development Policy

 

Library resources recommended by Teachers / staff will need to be approved by Head of School / Coordinators.

Approved Recommendations will be forwarded to Admin Officers for further actions.

 

Book Exhibitions

 

The Library department can invite publishers and vendors to organise book exhibitions cum sales on the school campus on various occasions.
